Fight for life - BBC1

by Teri_R @ 13. Aug. 2007. - 23:03:34

Has anyone else been watching this series on BBC1?

I have watched everyone, and think it has been excellent, giving insight into how the body works, and heals itself.

Today was the last in the series and focussed on the final years, and how although declining the body will attempt to repair right until the end.

Considering our current circumstances it was a little close to home, and I couldn't help but think of my dad when it focussed on Len. He was in his 80's and his bowel had started to fail. The doctors in A&E gave him is options, and although prepared to operate advised him he may never recover. He bravely said "I've had a good life, I fought in Normandy, and god has been good to me, what happens next?" The doctor (who you could tell was emotional) advised him they would move him to a ward and make him comfortable. The program then only showed internal images as how one by one the body closed down until Len's heart gave out. His family by his side.

What a very brave man!
