For people with speakers please excuse the cheese, but it's to go with the birthday cake for a very special birthday!
Some 75 years ago today, Dorothy Mavis Hall was born in Sheffield. She grew up and went to marry Jack, who lived in neighbouring Rotherham, and despite living here for over 50 years she is still seen as an "incomer" and "a de da"
Dorothy and Jack went on to have 7 children, 4 boys, 3 girls. Sadly they lost one son in a motorbike accident when he was 17, which they never got over.
Dorothy, known as Dot to anyone outside Sheffield, despite battling against kidney desease, arthritis and heart problems. Continues to offer loving support to all her children, son/daughter in laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her walls covered in pictures referred to as "rogues gallery" She visits her daughter's monthly to "view" her grandson and his daughter on the web cam in Japan.
My son calls her Trixie, she makes the best yorkshire puddings and gravy in the world and is a avid Gene Pitney fan. I was pleased I bought tickets for his concert last mother's day, he died two days after the concert (wasn't me!) Every Saturday, my son (19) his cousin (18) and friends join mum to watch Dr Who and drink all the pop. She calls it "the youth club"
Mum doesn't want any "fuss" for her birthday, she wants to wait till September, and have a joint party with my dad who will be 80 and my baby brother who will be 40! We know better than to go against her wishes.
Happy Birthday mum, you're the best!
