Clever little girl!

by Teri_R @ 23. Feb. 2007. - 14:58:40

Hi all :)

Today in the post we got Abi's performance review. These are held quarterly with the learning support mentor and then the year are graded by effort.

In Abi's last review she was ranked 152 out of 305
On this review she is 111 out of 307 !!

I have mixed feelings on this, but the school have done it for years and it's a good indicator that your child is performing (or not)I like the way it is measuring the effort a child puts in as opposed to how attainment. For instance Abi has a target level of 5b in Maths and she is managing to be on target to achieve that. However her effort grade is only good, meaning because she knows she is doing ok so isn't putting the effort in. In science she has a target of 6c and is below target although her effort is excellent. Which I read to mean despite putting lots of effort in she is struggling (we plan to give her extra support in this)
She has 3 more excellent effort grades than on the last, and all the others are good. So this weekend I am going to buy her the Sims game she is trying to save for :)

She does have difficulty with her writing, she holds her pen funny and writes very slow and messy. Her spelling is bad (like her mum!) even when copying text. Matthew was the same, and he was diagnosed with dyspraxia. We've had Abi assessed and she hasn't got it, but I want to help her with this, as I think it sometimes has an effect on the work she produces. Any ideas?

By the way, I haven't chucked a sickie. I'm doing a 3pm-8pm today, I want to speak to some of the staff before I develop a user guide for one of the contracts :)
